I may post something like this every once in a while. I like getting most of my media recommendations from friends, so here’s what I’m in the mood for right now. If you know of something, feel free to comment or reply to this email (I think it’ll come back to me?).

BOOKS (by the way, if you want to be friends on Storygraph, my username is jialuostory)

Anything you think I’d like based off what I read in 2024
Stories with a strong found family. It’s actually kind of great if they fight a lot.
Hopeful climate fiction, always
Fantasy and sci-fi in settings or based on cultures you don’t traditionally see in fantasy and sci-fi. But also nothing that’s suuuper fantasy or sci-fi. (For example, I could not get through Gideon the Ninth.)
Books that remind you of Station Eleven the TV show. I should probably just read Station Eleven, or Emily St. John Mandel, in general. I do have Sea of Tranquility on my TBR.
Standalones or duologies, please! I’m not ready for series yet.

TV SHOWS

Serious, epic dramas with a lot of action, political intrigue, and complex characters (e.g., Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Succession)
Wholesome comedies (e.g., Abbott Elementary, The Good Place, Derry Girls, Ted Lasso)
Young adult-y fantasy shows with fun character dynamics (e.g., Sense8, Shadow and Bone but only because of the Crows)
My TV show interests are pretty diverse. I’m also willing to venture outside these categories for things that are really good.
I’m not really into sitcoms with dozens of seasons. (You can tell I have a problem with commitment.)

VIDEOGAMES

Short, narrative-focused games with minimal gameplay, like visual novels
OR cozy story-driven games with tasks and progression
OR two-player games I can play with my partner
Preferably nothing that requires actual gaming skill because I have none :)
Examples of games I’ve liked: Harvest Moon, Butterfly Soup, Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, Kirby and the Forgotten Land
